New study reveals a rapidly growing, bipartisan backlash against Big Tech’s physical infrastructure, with two new local opposition groups forming every day
The report identifies 430 local data center opposition groups organizing through Facebook, up from 268 in April.
According to the report, more than 525,000 Americans have mobilized to resist the construction of hyperscale data center facilities across at least 40 states. Total opposition membership has increased almost sevenfold since December 2025, with recently two new groups forming per day. The report includes a breakdown of the opposition by state.
